Meaning One:
The person who answered did not realize that when choosing a religion, one should choose only the true religion. Food considered, it does not matter, even if it is not the tastiest or even if it is not the best of all, the requirements would be sufficed. The desire to eat would be fulfilled and hunger killed. But once a ‘wrong’ religion chosen one could end up in blazes eternally!
Meaning Two:
The person who answered is very contentious. He believes that whatever religion one follows, it does not matter as long as that particular religion gives the person hopes and the satisfaction and the driving force of life. At the end it would not matter!

As Zakir doesn’t believe in Evolution, he wouldn’t expect the possibility that, yes, humans tried all sort of vegetation (faiypilaaveli), testing and experimenting them, identifying the healthy and the poisonous. At the end of the day, after 6 million years wandering all places around the Earth, now as children our elders can teach us what is edible and what should not be eaten — because our ancestors told our elders AFTER experimenting.
This makes me highly suspect that Zakir couldn’t be a scholar because his intellectual strength is almost non-existent, as this point proves because he did not understand such a simple question from Nazim.
Or maybe this is the danger of bringing foreigners to preach in Maldives. They don’t understand the Maldivian mentality and of course they don’t even understand how Nazim framed the question — as an Atheist who is searching for the Truth.
Even if Zakir doesn’t believe in Evolution, couldn’t he have at least answered Nazim’s original question: “Give me a reason why I should read Quran in the first place.”
What Nazim means obviously is, something like, “There are a billion websites which come up on Google. Can you narrow me down which sites are useful and which are not, giving me some reasons why you think this site is worth my time and that site is not?”
People who fail to understand Nazim is not Maldivian at all! The Salafists obviously have lost all their sense of Maldivian identity, culture, and even collective Maldivian public mentality (which we call the “Maldivian majority moderate view”), so like the Taliban’s dog, they thought of attacking Nazim first!
The mindless robots! The result of all that brainwashing in Pakistan and Afghanistan Madrassas and Medina University… I’m sure if the Islamic Ministry has a legitimate mandate, it’s first National Duty should be to rehabilitate these fools rather than going after Nazim’s ass.
