Both the defendants in the murder case of Samir Abdul Mueen in December last years, walks freely as the court rules both the defendants innocent as a result of not enough evidence.
The eyewitnesses who testified against the defendants during the police investigation for unknown reasons retracted their testimonies.
This is heartbreaking! I really feel sad for the lives lost! It perhaps is far beyond time that Maldives start accepting forensic evidence at courts. We are now certain that eyewitnesses can not be used in such cases!

But ultimately this all goes down to one problem. We are all trying to clean the well without taking out the dog that’s in the well. We have to take out the dog first and then start cleaning the well….
Translation: To address the source of the problem. Ban the various gangs that roam around in all parts of the country. And give police more powers to detain and arrest and hooligans, paateys or even people who look like paateys ): and of course death penalty for murderers.
