What is it about, the murders?

December 11th, 2008 § 8 comments

When the general public is in a constant fear, it is the duty of the authorities to ensure their safety. Today it has become common gang fights and killings. Considering the size of Male’ and its population, the killings in the past few months are a lot! And what is more shocking is the fact that the public does not know in full, what is going on. Every such case ends with words such as ‘we are further investigating’, ‘the suspects have handed themselves over to the police’, ‘reasons unknown’…

But the people need to know more than this. They need to know, the reasons behind the fights and killings. They need to know if the victim is simply an unfortunate random lad or not. Such and such information been hidden from the public, only increases the fear in the hearts of the people. They do not know if it might be them that would be slaughtered next, in the daylight, in the midst of several people, helpless!

Secondly, the people are not shown enough evidence that the authorities are trying enough to bring an end to this! If and when the authorities act wise, there is no doubt that gang fights and killings would come to an end or to a level negligible. However, when such a barbaric act occurs, patrolling the streets for a couple days and creating check points is not a solution. The solution lies in the legal field, the laws and regulations and enforcement of such laws and regulations.

Unfortunately today what we see is different authorities pointing their fingers at each other, trying to blame each other, rather then trying to bring a solid solution to the increasing crime rate of the Maldives. And it might be loop holes in the legal bound, which makes it impossible to take appropriate actions to stop such crimes.

Bringing an end to this is the responsibility of every individual. It is also the responsibility of the security forces and related ministries and the Government as a whole. These crimes are committed in day light, in the presence of several people. There should be something that could be done to bring an end to this. And the best way might be to create a goal, for example to make the streets safer, and join hands to achieve this goal!

im suprised that u didn’t even name the current government and its ‘none of our business’ method of dealing with these brutal killings. all they care is whats happening in ‘jalu ge’.
one more thing if this happened a month and half earlier, u would be working on your mind what are the names you havent called maumoon. didnt ya?
    what happened now?!!!

  • andhu says:

i love this post thadu, very true indeed. but i dont disagree with the comment above me either. if this happened a few months back, everything will be blamed on maumoon. its not the government which needs to be changed. its the people who need to change their ways of thinking, to a more open minded one rather than a closed one. people “think” they think openly but they just talk one sided. And yes, we need more stricter laws and regulations if we need to stop these killings and riots.

  • thadu says:

umm.. the fact is that i have very clearly mentioned in this piece of writing that “if and when the authorities act wise, there is no doubt that gang fights and killings would come to an end…” and more

but again, is there a room for comparing a government of 30 years with that of 30 days? if the former government that ruled for 30 years had done some solid work, today this would not be the case. all these fights and killings, it is not something that started today, it was in existence since a long time back!

and the same way that i did not mentioned any names of the current government, i also did not relate these unacceptable events to the former government.

and the reason is . . . not to be biased… because blaming each other at this point will not be of any help

  • guy says:

im sick of people saying that the government is in its infancy. i tell you this. we gav 30 frikking years to maumoon and his cronies!
nasheed is working the footsteps of maumoon. exact same way he did thirty years ago. awarding ministrial portfolios to his hardcore activists as the reward.
where is the human rights ambassedor of his when a child is brutally killed infront of a gawking public? that he has to give to go-go latheef for what?? we have a human rights commission! just because nasheed foresaw that go-go might challenge him he was awarded the package!
we cannot afford to give another thirty years to correct these mistakes, or even a single day to commit the same frikking mistake by nasheed.
so bring out the rage you had when you wanted maumoon outsted. dont blame authorities for lack of cordination. blame nasheed for chickening out to overhaul the system. blame his cronies for dangling on his neck. blame you because you cannot critisize the same exact mistake again just as its done by another person you voted for. dont just disperse the problem.
im saying this because i believe that you would think abt this open-minededly.

For the last 2 to 3 months, when all the gang leaders were taken in ,we can walk on the streets safely. Dawning of Aneh Divehi Raaje, life has become bad to worse and frightening. People are frightened to go out into the streets, don’t know whether they can come home safely. President doesnt think of the people or the constitution. He only thinks of giving high rank posts to MDP activists, and traveling in the islands on government funds , champaining for his party (MDP), for the forth coming election. He is trying to get votes for MDP, from the fishermen and their families by making promises. He doesnt care what is happening in the Capital, Male’. He doesnt care what the people say or think, otherwise , he wouldnt have released the criminals or bring them from jail and put them under house arrest. The person to blame for this unrest in Male’ is the President Nasheed. The police or the Ministry of Home Affairs is not to blame. If someone opens the door, and releases a tiger into a room where there are about ten children, and when the tiger attacks, would you blame the people there to look after the children, or the organisation , or the person who released the tiger into the room? Think Maldivians and wake up before its too late. If I had known this would happen, I wouldnt have voted for Anni. Where is the big mouth, Moosa Manik , Maria…. I heard them speaking about the unrest in Male’ on Maumoon’s presidency. Now I wonder whether they are serving the people , or is it a vengence against Maumoon. If they are faithful to the people they should have taken up the subject in the Majilis and try to bring a stop to this violence. Sad , they have to stand up againt their hero, Naseed. I think someone should stand up. DRP is in a coma. Is this “vatan edhey goiy”? May Allah Almighty save us from President Mohamed Nasheed and his activists. Ameen.
