Youth for change!

It is inspiring, the work of youth to bring a change to Maldives. Today when I walked with the crowd all around Male’, several thoughts went through my mind. The youth of this nation, when did we last hear their voices? I hear my friends talk their minds at coffees, but never in the public. When I think about this, what I imagine is a dictator who tied the hands and taped the mouths of the youths! However, as a result of infinite sacrifices of several people, today we are able to speak freely and openly. And when the youth is able to do so, what is it that they speak about?

Today, during the rally their voice was one… “Badhalakah, Enmen!” What does this mean? In my point of view, they are expressing their feelings for the past several years in a single phrase. Golhaa might say that, because a famous musician joins him, the youth is with him. But today’s rally organized by the youth is a fact that can not be denied proving that the youth is in need of a change. And it is also evidence that the youth has finally felt the freedom that was chained by Golhaa for the past several years.

Also seeing the youth in action brought tears to several eyes, for two main reasons. One, the fact that the youth is able to speak their minds, and two, the fact that the youth is working hard for a change!

Unfortunately, Golhaa still does not see anything! He might say it is ‘not true, simply not true. They were just a few drug edicts shouting and terrorizing the citizens!’ But the citizens of this country are not blind anymore. They know what their children want, and they understand why their children want what they want. They, the youth, have witnessed more then enough the torture their parents were put through by Golhaa’s government. They have witnessed more then enough, the underprivileged life their parents and they themselves are living. They have witnessed their grandparents die due to lack of proper medical attention which could otherwise have had saved their lives.

They have seen enough of every negative thing that is caused by the carelessness and due to the autocratic style of Golhaas government. And today, they are forced by virtue to say only one thing! That is to work for a change! I am, like several other Maldivians, proud and happy that the youth is still in a good thinking after all the years of brainwashing!

The only unfortunate issue is that several of the youth is spending their time in jails or as drug addicts. This is a situation created by the leaders for their own advantage. It is saddening what Golhaa has done to the youth of this country. And every parent should be proud that their child is working very hard for a change, and every parent should feel obliged to help their children in anyway that is possible to oust the dictator.

Listen to the voice of the youth, “Badhalakah, Enmen!” Vote Wathan Edhey Gothah for a change, to oust the dictator!
