Finally the elections commission has agreed that the eligible voters list contains repeated names and names of deceased people. And the possibility that it might have 18- children can not be ignored. This is a pure fact that proves how much Golhaa wants to win this election. We should not doubt for a single second that Golhaa will do anything and everything to win this election. And he will use every possible means at his disposal. The eligible voters list contains some 200,000 names, and how is a sane person going to believe that they could not validate this list. Of course we understand that there would be obstacles, but it is not impossible. Now that there is no much time before elections and knowing that the list will ‘remain as it is’ we as individuals, we as a community, and we as a nation should think about our future.
We should do everything possible to ensure that the observers and political parties take effective measures in observing the voting process. We should ensure that at least there are no access papers in the ballot box. Might be old, but still we should make sure that elderly people are aware of the ‘bodu kaafu’ and the ‘kuda kaafu’. And most importantly we should make sure that we cast our vote. In my recent trips to Addu atoll and Huvadhu atoll and in my current visit to Malaysia I have met several young people who say that they have decided not to vote.
They say that voting has become such a burden and a headache, and they assume that their vote would not count and they have finalized that their vote will bring no change. But what they need to understand is the fact that there are several others with the same thinking, what would happen if all these people do not vote? It would only increase the chances for Golhaa and chances for vote rigging. No matter how many hurdles you might have to cross, no matter how far you might have to travel, cast your vote. Believe in the fact that a single vote counts! And believe that a single vote can bring a change!
Don’t forget the past thirty years. We should not let Golhaa win this election no matter how much he tries to rig it. We don’t need to reach new heights in what Golhaa has brought to this country, what we need is a change, a change that would make our lives better in every way, a change that would decreases the differences between the poor and the rich, a change that would make all Maldivians equal, a change that would make us walk fearless on streets, a change that will change our lives for the better! And to bring this change each and every eligible voter needs to vote, and make sure that the vote is not for Golhaa! Keep on chanting “No to Golhaa”.

#5 Gayyoom appoints neccessary people he may require to run the government (or win the election) according to the constitution. Thus all Atoll chiefs and others who can influence island communities have been selected.
All those mentioned above get fat salaries (salaries they never have dreamed of in the past) so they will come to office, do something or nothing and keep laughing out the opposition and democracy we the reformists are dreaming of.
