I am obliged to vote Anni!
Why? Why should I vote Anni in this second round of voting? There are certain reasons why I feel that I’m some what or perhaps completely obliged to vote Anni. First of all, let us forget today and wander our thoughts through the past thirty year history of Maldives. All these years it was a single president who ruled this country. And in what I see, I feel that he is a person who wants to be the father of every thing! Perhaps it is his main to earn several good names before he left his position or before he leaves the earth. I feel that it is due to this that our country is not up to standards that we want today. That might also be the reason why some people are living a very low standard of life while some others are enjoying life to the maximum, but within this same tiny country.
Unfortunately, four years back, due to certain incidents this president’s ‘dirty side’ became visible to several people. The beautiful names that he earned almost are buried and invisible. The truth is, in the past thirty years, ‘islanders’ have been almost ignored, except once in five years. However, due to several years of brain washing, they were unable to realize what this president was doing. They were either unable to understand the wicked plans of him to garner more votes, or they were in such a state of fear, that they were unable to raise their voices against the ill treatments they have been receiving.
And slowly this country kept on crawling into the very lowest of levels! The poor kept on getting poorer, while the rich made their way to the ‘heavens’! Drug addicts started increasing like the spreading of a wild fire. And this led from problem to problem. Parents were unable to send their children to the appropriate institutions of the government. For all they knew, if they send their child to the police, their child would be beaten to shit! And so, the fear of torture and ill treatment kept them silent.
Today, with a glimpse of freedom, from every corner of Maldives what we hear is the crying and weeping pleases for a change. The majority of the Maldives are desperately in need of a change. The result of the first round of voting is evidence to this fact. While 60% of people voted for a change, I feel obliged that in the second round also I should vote for a change, just like the rest of the underprivileged Maldivians.
In the first round of voting, I support Qasim Ibrahim for two reasons. First, I wanted a change like the rest of the Maldivians. I wanted to oust Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom from power. Second, I believed that Qasim Ibrahim is the best candidate out the five (excluding Maumoon). And it is not because that I disliked Anni or I wasn’t happy about Anni’s manifesto! Therefore, now that we are to vote again for a second time, I still feel obliged to vote for a change, and hence obliged to vote Anni. Again, the reasons are two. First reason is to oust Maumoon from power. And second, to change Maldives in a better direction. But mostly I feel obliged to cast my vote to Anni, is because it is the wish of the majority of Maldivians.
I please, I pray and I beg, just like the rest of the underprivileged Maldivians, VOTE ANNI to oust Maumoon from power, and also for the betterment of Maldives.

Well written article.
Unite against the Dictator – Vote Anni
Gasim Ibrahim is the best candidate you think? And you expect people with right mind to listen to you? Hehe. I too want change but not with this coalition of too many corrupt people. My vote goes to Golhaboa this time.
mee aharumenge faharu, kobaa tho aharumennakee, aadhe lobuvethi dhivehi enmehaa dharin, VOTE ANNI, NO TO OLD TIMER GOLHAA
yeah what a surprise that you decided to vote for Anni?
WE ARE NOT GOING TO VOTE GOLHAA THIS TIME
I will strive for a change. This is our last chance in this round. We dont want to loose this.
seen enough, heard enough, witnessed enough. its time for change now
Of cause, Anni is the maldives most revered statesmen, who led the struggle to replace the dictator regime of Maldives with a multi-party democracy.
eai thudu blog haadha colour fulley dho…
asle meega visnan vee gaumaa medhu , its not tht you shud vote anni cause he is a great person or sumthng , we shud vote anni so tht we all cud change the future and go to a better maldives without the dictator gayoom .
I understand your obligation, but how come no one is giving ANNI due credit? its as if he is the lesser of two evils. now that’s not really fair dho…..
All he has ever done is…. show resistance to the dictator and his regime, led the people out of darkness, fought for our natural rights like freedom of expression…he has done more for this country and democracy than the dictator has in 30 long and miserable years. he is trying to institute legitimate government.
