Business minded and being economy-literate are two very different thing! If you had spent even five minutes of the day with him while he attended a conference call or something, you will realize while he is not the man for the job! The fact that he could not handle the FINANCE ministry portfolio should again suffice!

If he were to hire somebody to be his president using his wealth, then maybe the country may benefit, because that's how he runs Villa as well. His empire was built on the good graces of this regime, and through a series of fall-outs and almost always riding on the World Bank's shoulder.

A man who is to take the top job in a nation, should not only have the respect and admiration of the people (how many philanthropists are presidents in the world? and how many businessmen are? the latter is the right answer), but he should be well versed and educated. The man will be a disgrace to the country if he heads our interactions with foreign governments. Gasim, if he is a well wisher of the Maldivian people, then he should put his financial support behind an ideal presidential candidate, and he should step back. It is no secret, that all his generosity and benevolence all these years was based on his not-so-secret desire to be Mr.President.

Now, we see a republican party being formed by Businessmen- for businessmen! And since many so called politicians realize that's where all the money to be made is, they are all rushing to join- and it has overnight become the majority opposition in parliament!
Typical, and a sad day again for ordinary Maldivians.

If this is democracy I want no part of it.
