Qasim and education

August 24th, 2008 § 9 comments

Those who speak against Qasim often try to convince others that Qasim is uneducated and therefore not a good presidential candidate. But is it a truth? In my opinion little do these people know what education is. Is education having a bachelors or masters degree or a PhD? It simply is insane to see education as having numerous certificates and high grades at school.

Education could be explained as “the gradual process of acquiring knowledge”. Qasim is a man who has acquired knowledge by experience: and prove to me what other education is better then the education garnered through experience! I personally know people who hold degrees in computer science, yet they do not know how to code a simple program. So what is mightier? Knowledge through experience or …

You, I and everybody else knows that Qasim is a well educated person. He has the brains required to select the most appropriate people to posts. He has the brain to understand the status, feelings and conditions of the Maldivians, because he has been a philanthropist most of his life. Is that not what we want at the moment? A person who know us well! A person who cares for us! A person who could …

Cast your vote to Qasim, and you surely would witness a future that is bright and full of opportunities.

  • no-to-gasim says:

It’s true that you may not need to go to a university for education. But the fact of the matter is Gasim is uneducated in any sense. The kind of knowledge we want from a president includes not only the ability to comprehend reason. We also want knowledge to think independently for oneself. I highly doubt Gasim has enough analytical abilities to think for himself. He always need someone else. Worse, he listens to others when he wants. Result? He gave a deaf ear to Jihad on numerous occasions. He doesn’t know the basics of finance (e.g. our budget), he doesn’t know or believe in the basics of the kind of politics we are looking for (e.g. his personal marital life which shows his lack of respect for women), he does not know the basics of international relations. People (not DRP) who have worked with him in the government testify that Gasim is a total embarrassment. He is too ignorant. And he is too rash. Sorry.

But, let’s grant he has good experience. But is that all? How about his business interests? Too much power in one hand is not good. Power is not only administrative power. He already has too much social power: his media, his sponsored NGOs, his sponsored political parties, his sponsored politicians, and so on. No single citizen in the country can influence politics as can Gasim. Meaning he can unfairly affect the political process. In the end, we might not find any benefit of, say, the so-called separation of powers, because he could easily set agenda and take decisions in other state complexes. Also, already, the man, in his private, is effectively a dictator for a large segment of the population.

His philanthropy is not a really well carried out one. It is just like the government ‘welfare budget’. People have to stoop into undignified lows to get aid from him. It is not systematic, it is random, and too personal. I’m here ignoring all the talk about how and why he really ‘helps’ others! And, just because Gasim may be a philanthropist it does not mean we have to grant him presidency as a gift in return.

And, how about the available options for president? Are there more capable people? How about Anni? Dr Saeed? Ibra? Umar Naseer?

I highly doubt he is the best candidate. I think he is one of the worst out there.

  • bullshit says:

Anni is no less then golhaa. and he cant even handle his own part, MDP. all the presidens so far had to resign because of this NUT Anni.

Umar Naseer, what a joke! with him as the president of Maldives we better be ready to be on comdey central 24/7 LOL

All fake people. Gasim is the only candidate so far who can bring real good to this country. Accept or not that is the truth and the only candidate that golhaa is afraid is of Gasim

  • happy says:

i am happy coz gasim is in the race. i will vote him

  • some1 says:

    damn.. ignorance is a bliss… =_=

  • addu meeheh says:

Gasim need to select a running mate wisely in order to win the election Gasim can beat Gayyoom and win this time

  • see non says:

Gasim should first learn to read n write fluently in both English and Dhivehi…. i’m totallly against him as the next president of Maldives…n u shud b too

the best candidate so far is Dr. Hassan Saeed…

  • thadu says:

    See Non,
I agree Dr.Hassan is a well educated person, but considered the current politicl and economical situation of Maldives, in my point of view, Qasim is the best candidate

  • shaan says:

  • shuhanie says:
