Seriously, what is running in their mind, I do not know! All I know is – based on what they speak at the ‘majlis’, what they debate about, and based on the amendments they propose to be included in the new constitution – that their aim is to save the current regime and let Gayyom rule for another term or so! I would not say that Gayyom is a… But has he not ruled long enough? Has he not failed, and has he not proven that he did not bother until he was forced to do so. Well, the fact that he has ‘developed’ the country with in the last four or so years much more compared to the first twenty five or so years of his presidency, is enough evidence that he was completely disregarding the needs and wants of the populace.
That been said, the actual issue is not the MPs supporting him or wanting him to be the eternal ruler of Maldives. If that is what they want, by all means, please make an amendment stating that ‘he shalt be the ruler, till death veils his life’. The actual issue is that, these very people who are supposed be nurturing the feelings, needs and wants of the citizens; do not understand their actual duty! Rather, they go on blabbering about what they want and only what they want. For Gods sake! What happened to the mighty promise they made? And if they had completely forgotten about it, what are all the religious talks and sermons they deliver at the ‘majlis’ sessions! Expecting God would love them or something? Or God would provide them with houri just because they say ‘only Islam, only Islam at Maldives’?
Do they even realize the situation, the state of the people who they are supposed to protect and provide with a better life, better future. Alright, they get a ten thousand per month perhaps as the basic earnings, and hell… that is the amount a citizen pay for rent per month at male’ while the income is only two thousand! And the increasing prices! It was very nice of you, Mr. President, to announce that you will increase the salary of government employees in 2008. But were there any measures taken to minimize the resulting increase in the products due to this announcement? The already out of reach prices are increasing limitlessly and what are the MPs doing? Or am I wrong and such issues are none of their business?
Umm, I don’t intend to highlight on every social issue! However, another important duty of theirs is to ensure the safety of its citizens. And why the hack does the poor people feel unsafe, at any given time, to wander around! No one knows when they would be sliced into pieces, or when their expensive mobile phones or jewelry would be snatched by a darn mobster. The results of the egoistic nature of our leaders been paid off by us, the pitiable citizens, experiencing a hell-ly life in the so called paradise!

What goes in their minds? They themselves do not even know what they are talking about. I do not usually watch this Majlis in session on TV Maldives. But for reasons that I am not sure, I watched it last night and I found it enetertaining and amusing. I was sometimes laughing at their stupidity. It gave me the same satisfaction that I get when I watch the show, “Dhirulhumakee miee baa? or My wife and Kids”.
Last night the funniest thing one of the members, namely Ali Waheed of Rah Atoll said was something like “democracy is a combination of two Greek words to mean People Rule. So at all costs the government should be run and laws are to be made as per the wishes of the people”. And as an afterthought he added “of course as long as peolpe do no not go outside the boundaries of Islam”.
So in my weakend mind I got the conclusion that even though the majority of Maldivians wishes that they need nothing to do with Islam, the Goverment has the divine obligation and authority to make sure that every Maldivian remains a Muslim and within the reach of Islam. If it is so, the dictator at any given time could boycott any law saying that it contradicts Islam. There is no stopping it, that of course will pave way for the dictator to remain in power for another 30 years or until he is no more.
My only question to Mr Waheed and the rest of the MPs who approved his statement by passiveness is- “Where does all this authority come from, if not from the PEOPLE?” Or is it from Allah the Great.
